Gettysburg Morning

Gettysburg Morning

by Paul Harris

(Rochester, Illinois)

Gettysburg Morning

The third day came and all is calm
The birds begin to sing
Nature claims her fields again
And blessed us with a breeze

Lying here in sweet green grass
I watch the morning sky
As sunlight oh so slowly
Creeps into the night

Lifeless forms around me
The men from my hometown
How brave they fought the last three days
To hold this piece of ground

Gettysburg, they call this place
Where I watched my brothers die
Three days of hell we suffered here
In a blazing hot July

Carry me away from here
Lie me there by yonder tree
Poor upon me cool spring water
Heaven’s calling out to me

The third day came and all is calm
The birds begin to sing
Nature claims her fields again
And blessed us with a breeze

Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the web the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people think about worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

Good Job!

by: Zoe C.

I liked this poem a lot; it made you empathize with the soldiers by describing the conditions in which they fought, and also made you feel bad for those both those who survived and those who died. You feel bad for those who died for obvious reasons, while you empathize with those who lived because they had to live with the guilt that they killed many men. Many also had to watch their comrades die right next to them. This poem talks about how one person felt after the battle which I really liked because it was different.
