Dobbin House Tavern

My family group chose to eat lunch at the historic Dobbin House on Steinwehr Avenue. Lunches are served in the lower level of the building which has served as a tavern. The small room has a bar and tables. They do not take reservations so you are seated on a first-come-first-served basis. The room is small, low-ceilinged and has no windows. The lighting is by candle only. The effect is excellent for creating that stepped-back-in-time atmosphere for which they are famous. The menu includes homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and breads. I had the Salamagunda Salad(a chef’s salad) and it was delicious! Others in my party raved about the beef noodle soup. The ten narrow, twisting stairs down to the tavern may be daunting for anyone with mobility issues but the experience was worth the effort.
